Elements - 2022

‘Elements’ - a group exhibition shown at The Storey, Lancaster September 2022. Three artist printmakers exploration of the theme ‘Elements’ through the medium of print.

Over 13 traditional and contemporary printmaking techniques were displayed along with many of the plates, blocks and tools used to create them.

Rozz and Julie both worked from Iron Press Printmaking to produce their pieces, and I worked from Hot Bed Press, Manchester.

For me, Elements was an opportunity to play, creating work with new techniques and at scales outside of my usual practice.

For ‘Earth’ and ‘Fire’ elements I re-examined the contents of my 2014 geology dissertation. This time with a fresh perspective on the volcanic geology of Snowdonia, on a macro and micro scale.

I explored ‘Air’ and ‘Water’ elements through cyanotypes, exposed first under the unpredictable Mancunian sky, and fixed in water.
